There are few things that bring comfort on a chilly winter’s evening like the flavor of warm, freshly made applesauce. It’s easier to make than most people realize. I prefer my applesauce to be a bit chunky and with a hint of cardamon.

Homemade Applesauce
Ingredients
- 4 medium cooking apples granny smiths are a good choice
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Cut apples into slices, place in sauce pan and add water. Heat water and apples to a boiling over medium heat. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender (5 to 10 minutes).
- Use a potato masher, blender or hand blender to puree – be careful not to burn yourself.
Notes
Add one of these delicious options to warm applesauce before serving:
– cardamon
– cinnamon
– nutmeg
– dried cranberries
– dried cherries- coconut flakes
